"is using those all that different than taking rewrites from an editor?"

Yes, because an editor is a human being. Therefore an editor's suggestions are *intended.* Nothing an AI says is intended because there is no human being there to intend it. Without a communicator, there is no communication. Without a speaker, there is no speech. Do you see? Presenting a speakerless non-speech as if it were speech, as if it were the response of a human person to a *felt reality,* is a lie and a betrayal.

I definitely hear you. But I do think it's worth probing why we don't have those same taboos in other fields. Is design not also an art form? Why is it okay to use AI to design a webpage and call it your own?

I would apply the same caveat to any artistic expression.

Using AI to build a spreadsheet, fine: pure mathematical function, fine. Anywhere we feel or anticipate the presence of a human intention, not fine. We can (and I think will) go down that road, and it will not be good for us, and it will not end well.

As for music? I am ready to go Uncle Ted on it.
