In an August 7 dispatch, I (Joe) wrote:
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has proposed a new policy targeting “misleading” or “biased” AI outputs.
Last December’s executive order on AI directed the FTC to take a stance on regulating AI. Yesterday, the FTC obliged, releasing a policy statement and opening it for public comment.
The last sentence was incorrect. The policy statement was posted a month earlier; it opened for comment on July 7, not August 7, and comments closed at the end of July. I was thrown off by the date of the news article (Aug 7) and I think I looked at the day but not the month when checking. Oops. Thankfully someone caught it early, and the daily digest and podcast should avoid the error.
