About AI StopWatch

AI StopWatch is a newsroom experiment by comms analysts and writers of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute. Views expressed are those of the individual contributors, and should not be taken as official MIRI positions.

This site started as an internal media analysis project by Mitch Howe, in December 2025. He had two related goals:

• Improve MIRI’s models of how the public is understanding and responding to the extinction threat of artificial superintelligence.

• Identify more effective ways of communicating our message and galvanizing support for adequate solutions.

But MIRI’s fight is the world’s fight, and our message is the message of all who want humanity’s story to continue. If the project was useful to us, maybe it would be of use to others. Our hope is that helping people keep up will help them speak out.
